The Big Picture

As an addy type, this got me. A fun game where you guess the company logos with only a crop of the art.

I got something like 139,950, but high scores were closer to 200,000.

Check it out here and let me know how you did.

Two Princes

Okay, this is so much on topic with my post of a few days ago that I had to share it. Thanks to my witty friend Lucie for sending.

Once upon a time in a land far away,
a beautiful, independent, self-assured princess
happened upon a frog as she sat contemplating ecological issues on the shores of an unpolluted pond in a verdant meadow near her castle.

The frog hopped into the princess' lap and said:

"Elegant Lady, I was once a handsome prince, until an evil witch cast a spell upon me.

One kiss from you, however, and I will turn back into the dapper, young prince that I am and then, my sweet, we can marry and set up housekeeping in your castle with my mother, where you can prepare my meals, clean my clothes, bear my children, and forever feel grateful and happy doing so."

That night, as the princess dined sumptuously on lightly sauteed frog legs seasoned in a white wine and onion cream sauce, she chuckled and thought to herself:

I don't freakin' think so.

The Sound of Music

When you reach a certain place in life...not age, mind you, just place...you tend to lose focus on expanding your musical horizons. It's just the natural progression of things. Somehow seeing live shows and browsing for CDs just don't make the cut in a busy suburban life.

I've been fighting this battle and losing for awhile. But I refuse to give up trying.

I've killed two ipods. I know the lyrics to nearly every High School Musical song. I bought a "vintage" Go-Gos tee shirt at Target.

But, I refuse to give up.

I've filled my music library with "best ofs" from The Cure, The Beastie Boys and endless tracks from U2, Rush (who apparently have a new CD out!?), and assorted other youthful faves.

Still, I refuse to give up.

So now you'll find Jet, The Killers, The Shins and some other fairly recent bands in my world (okay, even these are considered tired by the hipsters out there but it's better than R.E.M., yes?)

A few songs that have my interest are Here We Go Again by OKgo, whose video is more fun than the song, if possible. Granted, it's an utter flashback to my Valley Girl soundtrack but hey, it's still new-ish. I also really love Panic at the Disco's I Write Sins Not Tragedies (accompanied by another fun video) and some Death Cab for Cutie.

If I can add a few newbies here and there every, say, year or so, I should be caught up in time to enjoy my golden years with respectability.

Still...the person who finds me an original Valley Girl soundtrack on vinyl will hold my heart in their hands for all eternity. There's some stuff you just don't grow out of.
